The Red Fort in Jaipur contains many viewing windows from which the ladies of the court could observe the activities outside but still maintain their modesty. The openings, which this painting represents are made from fgretted stonr and subsequently decorated. In reality much of that decoration has worn away. This interpretation seeks to recover their lost splendour.
