Wolfgang mostly known as “Lobo” was a well known character for over twenty years in our village of El Palmar, Cadiz, Spain. He was German and 64 years old. He spoke German, Spanish and English. We first came across him at the turn of the century when he was living in his Mercedes estate car in the dunes. He had hand painted his car, so that the sides back and bonnet were bricks and the roof of the car had been painted to resemble tiles. In the early 2000’s he moved to a plot just opposite our home and the car never moved again. Every morning and evening he would search the bins, mainly for his increasing pack of dogs, which he trained to obey his commands. In the summer of 2022 he left his car behind and moved to an encampment on the pavement opposite the beach.
On 31st of January my wife had gone to the local Coviran where Wolfgang sometimes shopped and she found him sitting on the wall looking very distressed. He asked her if he would take him back to his camp as his legs were very painful.
We found out the next day he had passed away a few hours after she had dropped him off.
His encampment on the beach and his car opposite us were removed within hours of his death. It’s as if he never existed.

Hopefully he will live on in this portrait
