Mark Page has exhibited in the UK and internationally (Holland France, Italy, and China) seeing his works acquired for both public and private collections including The Public Library of Savignano Italy, The Indie Photobook Library Washington, USA and Sir Anish Kapoor’s private collection.
Seeking to explore the impact of the digital revolution on photography as an art form Page’s current work uses photography, ephemera and images sourced from the internet to build dioramas and collections, experimenting with different approaches of recording, archiving and satirising contemporary British life and the photographic and institutional traditions used to document it.
Director, Curated Place says......
Mark Page asks a serious question: "Can I make a kind of fucked up social documentary photography series about Britain using dioramas made up of images sourced from the internet so I can stay at home and watch the telly instead?"
Mark Page is one of our favourite artists who captures the sometimes strange existential experience of what it is to be urban, British and Northern. He's the founder and Director of the Museum of Takeaway Menu Art MoTMA which seeks to create "the largest archive of takeaway menus in the world and form a resource where the study and celebration of the takeaway menu can take place" The Museum of Takeaway Menu Art can be found HERE
He's also the creator of the emergent world of Sodley-on-Sea an almost real seaside town that only exists as dioramas created in his living room (seemingly) under the influence of too much kebab shop hot sauce, the unwatched echo of ITV's daytime programming and a desire to reveal British identity and documentary photography though its own slippery stereotypes.
