Corsica - Mountains in the Mediterranean
Corsica is a lovely island, it is often referred to as the Isle de Beauté. At its heart are the rugged mountains of a large National Park and they rise to twice the height of anything in the British Isles. These mountains are home to Lammergeiers, Golden Eagles, Alpine Choughs and sheep-like Mouflon. In the spring, when we visit, roadside verges and banks are awash with wild flowers including a number of wild orchids. We also go to coastal areas where north-bound spring migrants make use of the easier flying rather than heading over the mountain tops. At times, migrating birds can pass through in spectacular numbers or in a very broad range of species. This talk is based on 14 successive spring visits to this wonderful location.
