Aotearoa -Land of the Long White Cloud
New Zealand is a wonderful place to visit for a wildlife holiday or to photograph many of the superb habitats and much of the wildlife to be found there. This talk takes the form of a tour that Mike co-led to this island nation. It visits coastal locations for superb seabirds right through to atmospheric woodlands of Southern Beech and Kauri trees and right up to montane glaciers and the stunning lower slopes of Aoraki or Mount Cooke. Since the arrival of a number of introduced predators (Rats, Stoats and Possums), many of the endemic birds have declined considerably. Some, such as the beautiful Black Stilt, are even on the brink of extinction. Many of the special species will be mentioned during this talk which is delivered alongside Mike's stunning images from this trip. The photography includes photos taken on a number of pelagic (sea) trips where magnificent Albatrosses drifted past or fed at really close range or where Dusky Dolphins swam in crystal-clear water making it seem like Mike was in the sea with them.
