This morning I was invited to give a talk to St Oswalds Primary School in Ashbourne for their careers day.
The school had invited various workers, postwomen, farmer, gamekeeper, railway worker etc to talk about their jobs and skills.
I had two groups of 25 children each time, boys & girls aged between 5-8 yrs old. I had to explain to them what being a professional artist involved, how I got started, education and college courses attended.
We then went into the tools I use, paint brushes, canvas's, pencils , paper, easels etc and talked a little about colour mixing.
We also talked about how I market my work, website, adverts and forum posts and how much I can sell a painting for.
I explained how I scale up a photograph onto a bigger canvas and they then had a practical task to do by copying a picture onto a grid. Some were very good and really talented with their drawing.
It was a really enjoyable morning and I have been asked to come back and talk more about art and demonstrate some painting techniques.
